FINE ART RESEARCH Paula Rego Dame Maria Paula Rego is a female visual artist who was born in Portugal on the 26/01/1935 but works and is based in London. She is an artist who creates paintings and prints based on storybooks. her work is mainly used with pastels as she favours them more than oils. she studied at the slade school of fine art in London. her work is rather abstract but has become more representational over time her work often harnessing feminine properties alongside folk themes based on rural practises and history from her home in Portugal. Paula Rego was born in Lisbon Portugal. after her family divided Paula Rego staying is Portugal with her grandmother she attended an English school their where she attended from 1945 to 1952. the school she attended was Angelican even though that of where she lived was mainly catholic the school being named ST Julian’s. later in her life she was sent to a finishing school in Sevenoaks. however she wanted to study at the Chelsea school of art due to her being unhappy at the finishing school but her parental guardians advised against it and instead she attended the slade school of art there she met her husband. her artist career began in 1962 as part of the London group, their she she frequently did art exhibits. in lisbon she held her first solo exhibition at sicuedade nacional de belas artes. in Portugal she had solo shows between 1971 and 1978. this includes other solo exhibitions in the Arnolfini in Bristol and the Edward totah gallery in London. after featuring in many exhibitions particular ones in at the calouste gulbenkian foundation in Lisbon and serpentine gallery in London. these exhibitions led her to become the first associate at the national gallery in 1990. based on nursery rhymes she created two sets of work continuing into a series of large paintings. her art then was held at many places like new York, Mexico and France. as referenced before her work is based with a feminine style most of her work was set towards women’s rights and abortion rights. her style has formed to that from printmaking to a strong and bold emphasis on young girls with clear forms of artistic expression of an abstract surrealist. she was mainly inspired by Joan Miro. her style has been pulled back into a clearer and linear approach slightly obscure but exact on how she wishes the art to be displayed or represented. Mimmo Palladino Mimmo is a leading member in the transvanguardia artistic movement. he is an artist who represents expressionism specialising in sculpture, painting and printmaking. being from Italy Mimmo studied and trained there. presented by Achille bonito oliva Mimo went on to further his artistic studies visiting Venice biennale and the U.S pavilion. there he opened doors towards understanding American pop artists this lead to his art being focused towards conceptual art and photography. after breaking through with painting once again resorting back to Italy traditional nature of painting techniques Mimmo left to Milan where he taught art at a school called the liceo school. in 1980 Mimmo put on his first solo exhibition in new York city where he was living at the time. Mimmo Palladino in his time has done many collaborations alongside many artist’s of different categories such as musicians. developing in his skill his art remained pictorial his creativity straying him into three dimensional work of sculpture and engraving media he most used. Mimmo has went on to make a movie and has worked on projects of all sorts like the mountain of salt in 19990 at the piazza del Duomo in Milan here the mountain became this places symbol Hughie O’Donaghue in 1953 Hughie O’Donahue was born in Manchester. he studied at st. Augustine’s grammar school then followed onto the trinity and all saints college later continuing onto goldsmiths university London specifying in a masters of fine art. taking influence from his father and his mothers Irish heritage spending a lot of time in county mayo. his art focuses on myth, history and memory. his art exhibitions consist of the AIR Gallery in London and the Irish museum of modern art in Dublin. his art explores universal themes of human life experiences on a large scale meditating and exaggerating on the ideas and truth of memories identity and human relationships. his work almost create a high intensity of emotions.
