Final 2 Days of Creative Practices – Creating a Final Piece from My Inspiration and Skills the I acquired From Each Workshop

For the final two days of 2D Creative Practices I took the inspiration from Andy Warhol’s collage painting. I started my final piece by creating an A3 collaged background by ripping random assortments of magazine images, text and assorted coloured papers. I took the word transform as age, so I wanted to print myself on acetate, at the age of 3 and now at the age of 18 to show a transformation from young to older and then overlaying it on top of my collage to replicate an art piece similar to Andy Warhol’s piece. To complete my final piece, I added a white mount made out of A2 card to create a frame. Overall, I really enjoyed ripping up bits of magazine and coloured paper and creating a colourful and interesting collage to make the image of myself at the age of 3 and 18 stand out.

Day 3 – Fine Art Painting Workshop Painting from Our Class Assemblage with Life Model

For our final day in painting, we painted our assemblage again but with a life model within the composition to make the paintings more interesting. For the three 5-minute paintings we used black India ink, and after each 5-minute pose the life model down, I layered the next two poses onto to create a sense of movement and rhythm through the marks the Indian ink made.

For the next two paintings we had to do a 15-minute and a 30-minute painting in gouache, while a video on the projector was playing within our assemblage and on the life model. I found this part of the workshop enjoyable as I never used gouache before and being able to create expressive but interesting marks within the paintings. I feel that the painting has a sense of calm based off the colours I chose to use and mix together and feel that I captured more in the 5 minutes, as it was quick and the Indian ink flew nicely, whereas with the 15 minute and 30-minute painting I found that I loved the life model in some parts of the paintings.

Day 2 – Photography Photo Book

For the second day of the photography workshop, we had to take photographs to tell a story and create a photobook to present the photographs that we chose. I was inspired by my cat and him noticing his own reflections within 3 different mirrors, showing the development of him not looking at the mirror to then starting to realise it’s his own reflection however, I wanted to put a twist on his reflection, by giving the viewer how a cat would act seeing another cat. To do this I gathered different words from a variety of magazines to identify my cat’s emotions throughout the photographs.  I really enjoyed constructing and understanding how to create my very own photobooks and capturing my cat within mirrors to capture an understanding of the behaviours of a house cat in everyday situations showing my cat making friends for himself in the mirror.

Day 2 – Fine Art Print Making Workshops

Monotype Print Making –

Collagraph Print Making –

For print making we got to try two different print making processes Monotype and Collagraph print. For Monoprint, we had to roll the colour of our chose of ink and then place a sheet of paper on top of where we placed our ink. We then got to experiment with different tools like pencils, paint brushes, forks, spoons and other interesting mark making tools. We then had to lean lightly on the paper that was on top of the ink to create an indentation in the paper that would then be our print after peeling it away. For Collagraph printmaking we got printing plate that we then had to roll on the coloured ink or inks that we liked. We then had to select from a variety of different textured papers, plastic or hand paint on a print to the printing plate, then rolled it through the printing press to reveal the final print. I loved this workshop as Printmaking is one of my many favourite art processes and learning new print making techniques was a lot of fun and messy. I also really liked being able to establish my own style through the print making and seeing what different tools make effective marks on my prints.

Day 1 – Fine Art Charcoal Timed Sketches and Collages of Class Assembly of Objects

From the assemblage we had to draw in willow charcoal the full assemblage, parts that intrigued are eye from the assemblage and another point of view. I enjoyed the fluidity and the mark making that I created through the set amount of time given. I’m still finding it hard to not focus on too much detail as in one of my charcoal drawings I found that I spent too much time on one of the main pieces rather than moving quick without catching detail within the mark making.

We then had to create a couple of collages from parts of are assemblage out of scraps of paper, card and magazines. I decided to collage the ladder and the mannequin with a masquerade mask as they stood out to within our assemblage we created as a group. I enjoyed trying to depict detail whilst using simple ripped and cut-out pieces of paper, card and magazines.

Day 1 – Photography Story Telling Mini Photoshoot

For photography we had to get into groups and give each other a certain object, animal, place etc. From the certain object, animal or place you were given we then as a group had to come up with a story to tell through are photographs based off what each of us were given in are groups. I got given a pigeon and my group had to come up with a story with a king, a cat, a sheep, a pigeon, a colander and a jellyfish.

With that we created, we wanted to tell the story as a child dressing up and creating imaginary animals and creating a crown out of the colander that we made from tinfoil, and yellow card cut out of triangles to make a crown like shape on the colander that we made. The pigeon I made was made out of a Dunnes stores paper bag, the cat and the sheep were made out of Styrofoam like material and the jellyfish was made out of different materials to act as a staff that a king would have. I really enjoyed working with my group to come up with a story to tell through are photographs and that as a group we could relate to creating are own world and story when we were younger with things found around the house.
