Day 2/Day 3 – Creating My Final Sculpture and Lens Workshop

For my final sculpture I created a small boxed in installation of autumn leaves, within the box’s interior and exterior. My process started by creating a box out of a cardboard box and adding a white back drop to the box, sticking it together with masking tape. I went to Stormont to pick leaves and also create my 10 seconds or more video sculpture, to be projected into my box. Once I collected the leaves that I liked, I then brought them home to try and recreate smaller versions of the different types of leaves from plain white card. I placed the leaves to the top of the box in the inside to look like some of the leaves where floating down to the ground, a pile of smaller leaves in the centre of the box, a few on the ground of the box and it’s exterior. After I had finished assembling my installation box sculpture, I projected my two favourite videos and watched my installation come to life. I really enjoyed the video creation and trying to come up with creative and interesting concepts for my final sculpture.

Day 2 Sculpture Lens Workshop – Drawing Ideas for What Sculpture to Create to Project One of My 10 Second Video Sculptures onto

For day two of the workshop, I had to develop a couple of drawing ideas to consider for one of the sculptures that I might consider creating, to show off one of my 10 second sculpture videos. For my initial ideas I wanted to create either a frame or hanging sculpture to project onto however, when creating a frame, I felt that I could turn the frame into an installation to go hand in hand with one of my nature videos adding hanging leaves to act as the leaves possibly falling like in my video. I want to create the installation box out of cardboard as I feel that it will be more robust and easier to make a box like shape, I will then create the leaves out of cardboard, adding either white card or paper mâché the leaves to give texture. I want to make the leaves out of white so that the video projected can be seen on the leaves and in the box itself.

Day 1 Sculpture Lens Workshop – (4) 10 Second Video Sculpture

For my fourth and fifth 10 second video sculpture I wanted to capture movement and colours using autumn leaves to capture changes within nature. I chose to throw leaves to show movement within my video sculpture. I feel that this video has a creative perspective on nature and was fun to throw leaves in the air like confetti.

Day 1 Sculpture Lens Workshop – (3) 10 Second Video Sculpture

For my third 10 second video sculpture I wanted to use my cat whilst trying to capture him within the frame. I wanted it to be like a moving pet portrait however, I found this video challenging trying to keep my cat within the frame of the video, but I am pleased with the overall concept of the video and being able to involve my cat.

Day 1 Sculpture Lens Workshop – (2) 10 Second Video Sculpture

For my second 10 second video sculpture I wanted to use the frame again but showing abstraction. Claire moved the frame around her face a couple of times while showing different emotions. This is one of my favourites as I love the expression that Claire gives for each emotion. I realised that the frame was back to front however, when playing the video back the expressions that Claire is showing allows the viewer to spectate as though it is a two-way mirror where one part is clear glass and the other is a mirror allowing Claire to see her own reflection, but the viewer can then see her as if they are standing behind a mirror seeing her emotive expressions.

Day 1 Sculpture Lens Workshop – (1) 10 Second Video Sculpture

For my first 10 second video sculpture I wanted to capture different emotions while videoing Claire within the frame to also try and make the viewer feel like they are viewing a portrait photo or painting and seeing it come to life. I feel to improve on this video I could have placed the frame better to make sure that Claire was more central within the frame.

Sculpture Lens Workshop Day 1 – Brainstorming Ideas for 10 Second Video Sculptures

For the start of the workshop, we had to brainstorm using word association, I chose the words complexion, mood, mirror, picture and nature. I then brainstormed using the five words using a mind map to show words that associate with the five words that I chose. I drew some ideas for what way I want my 10 second sculpture videos to looks like.
