TADF-collages

For my paper collages I experimented with both layering materials and cutting into it as well as manipulating the paper to create a 3D effect. The left two were made using the first method and the right two were made using the second method.
Over the week I wanted to bring these collages further by adding stitching and magazine cut outs to the collage collection’s
This piece combined the techniques of collage and cutting into the work to reveal the layers
Using magazine cut outs I experimented more with the idea of a face peeking through, using smaller slots
This piece attempted to combined the techniques of collage, weaving and fanning out the material

I next moved onto fabric, first ironing layers of fabric together to crate the piece below based on my spiralling collage.

In addition to this piece I created fabric collages using various methods

Fabric weaves on paper. This was made before the fabric weaving workshop
This piece was made after the fabric weaving workshop. The ends were left untied in order to create a more chaotic, constantly layer changing effect
Using differing textures of fabrics from old clothes I made this collage that combines various embroidery techniques such as a blanket stitch, running stitch and stitching that draws the fabric together
I wanted to push myself further and experiment more with other materials. Using polymer clay I creat different textures and various layers using the colour scheme of my mood board

TADF-past students work

Before making my paper and fabric collages we were shown past students work to gain inspiration from.

I particularly enjoyed the texture of this piece, reminding me to take that into account when creating my own work
I was drawn towards this piece due to its colour range being similar to my own moodboard, the stitching also interested me as something I would want to include on my pieces.
I really enjoyed the collage and abstract aspects of this piece, I wanted to make something that combined various techniques and brought them altogether

TADF-mood boards

For the theme of layers I wanted to originate my ideas from a very literal idea of “layers.” After some brainstorming between pages of a book and the layers of bird feathers, I landed on the idea of cake layers.” I first make a draft moodboard to just target colours and textures for the final piece.

Using the online software “Canva” I compiled various textures and colours based on cake flavours/types.
Final overall mood board on A3 paper. I made usage of paper cutouts from magazines and found material from my work place. As well as this I included colour sample slips of card to help focus on certain colours.

following this I focused in on one individual cake flavour/type. Again I made a draft moodboard using Canva that is shown below, followed by a final one.

I explored the idea of a mainly black, yellow and gold colour theming, including the addition of a marble effect.

Final black gateau layered themed moodboard made using ink sketches, faux leather and cotton fabric, magazine cut outs and oil pastel texturing on A3 paper

I still wanted to further the red/pink colour combination saw in the original moodboard so decided to using various materials to do so.

Final pink/red cake layer themed moodboard. Made using paper, sticks covered in oil pastels, magazine cut outs in a gradient and found packaging material found from my work place.
