Morning Class:

For this morning’s class we had a talk from Jackie Smyth, the employability and enterprise consultant in Ulster, about the business basics of freelance. She covered the challenges and upsides of being self employed, the qualities and characteristics of an entrepreneur and the key skills to running a business. Next we joined a Vevox session to answer a few questions about starting a business, then reviewed the answers. Furthermore, we covered business skills and knowledge, where to start when starting a business or self employment and some business considerations. Finally, we covered the NI business structure.

After, we had a 10 minute break before a talk from Rory Clifford, from NI Screens, who covered what and where the pixel mill is and funding for new studios.  Moreover, he discussed what placements and programmes they provide based on your skills and talents, other resources that NI Screen provides and the video game industry in Northern Ireland.

After a short break, Henry and Michael discussed freelancing and how to create a contract, the daily/hourly rates, procedural architecture and their personal experiences of freelance along with a list of pros and cons from different aspects of freelance.
