After speaking to Paul, and a few peers, about my manifesto, I decided that I should change my idea.
Looking back over my research, I came up with a couple new ideas and sketched them.
I really liked the second idea, as well as the mantra itself. I usually struggle quite a bit with procrastination and putting things off as long as possible, so this manifesto will definitely help push me to try and get everything done sooner.
I have been trying this year to move along with my work as soon as I can after I get it, and for the most part I’ve been telling myself things like
“if not now, when?” and “there’s no time like the present” in order to make myself get up and do it. Once I really thought about it, I realised that these are actually my personal manifestos, which is why I decided to go for these ideas instead of the first couple I had come up with.
I then took down a note of a couple typefaces to try and then went onto Adobe Illustrator.
A few of the typefaces I wanted to look at using were:
- Niagra Engraved
- Didoni URW
- Agency FB
I used Agency FB for the letters in the word “PRESENT” because this squared font reminded me of a digital clock. I thought this would fit well with the word within the clock-face.
Then I used Didoni URW for the rest of the text because I liked how bold it is. I also liked how rounded it was in contrast to the clock-face text, which made “PRESENT” stand out even more.
I did two versions, one with all black text, and one using coloured text. I ended up deciding that the second version, with coloured text, was my favourite. I thought this made it even clearer which word I wanted to be focussed on.
I gave my design a pale blue background because it is a tranquil colour and makes the audience feel calm when they see it. This helps ease stresses that may arise when procrastination goes too far.
For some reason, when I cropped the image with the black text, the entire image seemed to change colour ever so slightly. This is okay though, as I won’t be using this version as my final piece.
As previously mentioned, this version with the orange will be the one I use as my final piece.
