For week 8, we were taught about staging and anticipation. Staging is when an action is easily read and shows a clear action even if the character is silhouetted. Anticipation consists of three stages; anticipation, action and reaction.

For homework, we were tasked with animating a flour sack doing some kind of action. I chose to make it jump.

Animation Key Frames

I found that using key frames made the process of planning the movement and timing of the animation easier.

Final Flour Sack Animation

I like how the animation looks especially the ‘ear’ movement at the end. I enjoyed pushing how much squash and stretch the flour sack should have. The pacing was the quite tricky to get right as I wanted the jump up to be fast, the ‘floating’ to be slow and the descent to be fast again. I think the timing worked in the end and I like how it looks.
