Graphic Design- Presentation Of Work

Here i’ve just taking a few photo’s of how i’ve presented my work for submission, which contains work from my 2 week workshop and my main workshop.

Graphic Design- Sketchbook Experimentation

This sketchbook contains various amounts of first-hand images of the 4 exhibitions that i had visited which are the: The Golden Thread Gallery, The Mac Gallery, Catalyst Arts Gallery and Belfast Exposed Gallery. I then chose to mainly focus on The Golden Thread Gallery, as i found the VOX HYBRIDA exhibition very interesting. There is one piece in particular that really caught my eye which looked like words and letters backwards that were chipped out of a large piece of wood then painted ontop with a vivid pink colour and with the access paint there was a large sheet of paper that was used to print over the top.

This technique used in this piece inspired me to incorporate a printing process within my practise which is the Lino Printing technique. I intended to experiment as much as possible with my initial ideas and designs to then help generate ideas towards my final outcome. Colour is definately a main element that i like to include with in my experiments, so as you can see the process of creating these designs using a variety of coloured card, ink and acrylic. Again, with taking inspiration from this exhibition i had also included some letters to purposely become backwards and to create several repeat patterns. I personally think that theses lino prints worked really well and i also really like the contrast of each colour.

Graphic Design- Typography Book

Heres another typography book which is very similar to my previous examples. Here i attempted to experiment using marker and coloured paint pens to create various amounts of ideas that include the words of my chosen exhibition, The Golden Thread Gallery. Personally, I really enjoy experimenting scale and compostition, as i thnk that it helps balance the designs which a few of them can appear more simplistic. I also like to include a variety of elements such as: shape, pattern, colour and angles, which makes the designs look more effective.

Graphic Design- Typography Book

Here is another experimental typography Book, again using a lino printing technique. As you can see i have went for a bold colour scheme, as I’ve found that bold colours really enhance the details within a lino print. I have attempted to experiment with creating patterns, especially repeat patterns. I had also taken consideration of other techniques to create more abstract ideas that include: composition, scale, negative space, colour and collage. My aim was to create a series of prints using a variety of colours and with any excess paint or ink i rolled onto a separate page to craete a nice textured background.

Catalyst Arts Exhibition- Observation Sketches

This was another very minimal exhibition based on Catalystr Arts. This was a very spacious area which is an element that i took into consideration when it came to the observation sketches. The main elements that I found interesting was that there was no colour used at all and also the shapes, which is something that would work well within this project.

Belfast Exposed Gallery- Observation Sketches

Another Art Exhibition thats based on Belfast Exposed Gallery. Again, including a sketch of the space around the art work and i’ve sketched out the main areas that i found interesting. I’ve found that this Exhibiton was very minimal with there colour, but i really like the abstract pieces and those with great textures.

Golden Thread Gallery- Observation Sketches

Here are a few other observation sketches based on The Golden Thread Gallery. i’ve also included a sketch showing the space surrounding the area, which is a main focus on this inspiring Typograpghy piece. I’ve incorporated a range of other sketches that include different textures, shapes, colour and typographic lettering. I plan on choosing this exhibiton to work on throughout this project.

Exhibition- Catalyst Arts Gallery

Here is another exhibition visit to the Catalyst Arts Gallery. This exhibition was based on “Ornaments Of Prospect” The contrast between the shapes and colour is very strong, I think that these would work really well as pattern ideas to incorporate in my experimental typography pieces.

Exhibition- Belfast Exposed Gallery

This exhibition was based in the Belfast Exposed Gallery, which was called “Nothing but a Curtain” by Vera Hadzhiyska. So here I’ve taken various photos of the artist’s work and the space surrounding. What I like about this exhibition is that it’s very abstract and it’s showing a variety of media’s including: textures from fabric pieces, photography pieces, set ups and colour.

Exhibition- Golden Thread Gallery

Here is another interesting exhibition that I recently visited, called VOX HYBIRDA by artists Alice Maher, Chloe Austin and Emma Brennan which was held in the Golden Thread Galley. There was a particular piece that caught my attention, was the wall that had back to front lettering which appeared to me that wood was chipped into creating these very interesting words.
