Wilson Miner Video

September 29, 2020 - Blogs

After watching the video on Wilson Miner speak at a conference, I thought that it was motivating and moving, from beginning to end.

He touched on many good points, however, there was two quotes that stood out to me. The first one was by Alistair Smith, “at times of change, the learners are the ones who will inherit the world, while the knowers will be beautifully prepared for a world which no longer exists.” This is similar to what Wilson Miner had said previously to this quote, “if the environment is always changing, we need to be always learning and to do that we need to let go of what we know”. This had shown me that to be successful within the design industry, you need to be open to new ideas, as well as adapting to change and accepting it.

The second quote was stated by Wilson Miner, who said, “instead of adding things to the equation, we start taking things away; making them invisible”. This one stood out to me because I have noticed a common theme in design which is simplicity. I think simplicity is such a strong subject within design because it makes things more easily accessible which increases efficiency. It also helps to make things easier to understand which means there is less need for instructions and support.

Overall, I think this is a very informative video with the capability to inspire and gain a better understanding of interaction design.
