IxD103 Week 4 – Visual Identity

IxD103 Week 4 – Visual Identity

Week 4’s tasks were allocated to help us become more comfortable with our sketchbooks and stationary. Firstly, we had to sketch 10 different objects using the different drawing techniques we discussed during Monday’s lecture.

Here is what I came up with…

1) Laptop

2) Page

3) Pencil

4) Browser

  5) Book

  6) Radio

7) iPad

8) Camera

9) USB Stick

10) TV

The next part of our task was to choose 5 words from my word-bank which I developed back in week 1 and sketch something symbolic of their meaning and ultimately think outside of the box about how these words could be represented, visually.

As you can see from the images from my sketchbook, I started by noting key words, objects and concepts that came to mind whenever I thought of the word…

  1. Inspiring

2. Professional

3. Reliable

4.  Passionate5) Powerful

Review of Monday’s activites…

I think these exercises really helped me to become more comfortable with sketching again. It is definitely something I want to continue to improve upon. To improve, I am going to try buying bigger sketchbooks and use space to my advantage. I also think that as my confidence grows the skills will follow, helping to make my sketches more coherent. I think it is important that I need to remember the line between being original and being understood. What I mean here is that not all new ideas will always be understood, especially if designing icons and trying to portray certain words. I also know that with time, my own style will start to naturally shine through. I am excited to see where I can take this!
