Morning Class

This week we went over how to render in the viewport, the viewport in Maya is a good substitute to Arnold as it is less hard on the computer and is faster to render. It is however a lower quality render. In the render settings, turn on screen-space Ambient Occlusion, this creates shadows under objects near the ground. Turn on Motion Blur, adds a blur effect to fast moving objects. Turn on Anti-aliasing, this makes the render look crisper. The hardware fog makes a fog that covers the background. To change the default render, click Windows, Rendering Editors, Rendering, Select the Maya Hardware 2.0. Tick the Apply Output Transform to Render. Under Frame/Animation ext: name.#.ext. Select the camera used to film the animation and select HD 1080 under the Presents tab.

I also worked on the 3D previs and finished it

Afternoon Class

Now that the 3D previs was done we discussed as a group what parts of the animation we wanted, I tried to cut up the parts as evenly as possible and tried to make sure the parts were cut when the camera cut so it would be easier for the pieces to be edited together. I also continued to texture the kitchen.

We got feedback on 3D previs from Alec and Aodhan. I was told to adjust the aspect ratio to 1920 by 1080 as it was not, and turn down the opacity of the border as it would show what the camera will render. I also was told to stop moving the camera as much as it was a bit disorientating for the viewer, hold the shot of the ghost floating out of the fridge a little longer and to hold the shot of the sandwich in the ghost a bit longer as it did not let the joke settle.

This is the updated previs
