Graphic Design – my original photos and editing process

After time editing!
An original photo I went on to rescale, mirror, and use it as the background of one of my designs.

Basic edit using a select tool to change the colour of an area. I repeated this with 2 other colour and continued to edit until I was happy with my final product!

Graphic design – further work

The initial research I did to start to plan my ideas and main areas of the city I could create around.
Some ink stamp work in my sketchbook. Starting to experiment with colours, typography, and graphic choices specific to the area that I could include, i.e., the signature black and white stripe football kit for Newcastle United Football Club.

Photos I took of various ephemera I had kept from previous trips. I went on to use these images in my edited work!

 

Graphic Design work

My front cover. For this additional graphic, I overlayed and merged many different images and scans such as screenshots of the weather at the location, map reviews, and my own train tickets to and from the area.
My first graphic. For this piece I wanted it to feel like an introduction to the work ahead, with almost a feeling like reading this book is like taking a short visit to Newcastle. I created this graphic using my own photos of maps, and print work that I completed in my sketchbook. I overlayed various texts to add interest to the work. I am really happy with how it turned out!
The above pieces of work were dedicated to the famous Tyne bridge. For the piece on the right, I took a small section of a first-hand photo and layered it on top of itself in contrasting colours. I then overlayed sketches of the bridge and relevant text. For the second piece, I used the same image and another very similar one. I overlayed them with a slight, purposeful misalignment and edited this combined image. I am really happy with this second graphic as it is one of my favourites I created. I think it is very eye-catching and I love how simple it comes across although the process to create it was complex.
For the next two pieces, I took inspiration from the Metro train service that runs within Newcastle. I used my own tickets and leaflets from my trips there and experimented further with scanning and moving them about to vary the composition. I think these pieces are really interesting and I am delighted with how they came out.
The next two pieces were based on Newcastles’ Beamish living museum. The graphic on the right uses my own first-hand photos of the Joseph Herrons’ Victorian bakery they have built as an attraction. I overlayed a graphic I had made using ink stamps as well as various text. The graphic on the right uses scans of my ticket for the museum on a background of a photo I took while visiting.
The next two pieces I created are based around Newcastle’s very well-loved football team. For the piece on the left. I used a first-hand photo of the monument situated outside the stadium – St, James Park, and edited a small section with a different colour. I repeated this process and with some further editing was able to create the graphic you see. After some research, I discovered this statue was dedicated to a beloved player – Alan Shearer, therefore I wanted to make this clear by adding text to this graphic. The graphic on the right uses the same base image but is edited in a different way. For this graphic, I included the signature black and white stripe of the team’s kit. I feel I was able to incorporate it in the subtle way I desired. I am very happy with how these came out!
The graphic on the left is based around Grey’s monument – a very tall stone piece in the centre of Newcastle. I really love this piece. I think the colour scheme and layered text compliment each other really well. The next piece is one of my favourites I was able to create. I think it has a really interesting composition and it is very different in comparison to the rest of my work. The piece uses a combination of various first-hand photos of Newcastle and editing to create the image. I really love it and am super happy with how it turned out!
My final piece uses another first-hand photo of a beautifully intricate building I visited in Newcastle. I mirrored the image to add dimension and interest and also decided to add small details overtop of my text, the tape pieces, to add another level to my work.

 

 

Embellishment challenge

For my embellish challenge I wanted to merge concepts from my collage work and embroidery. Using my own prints, I carefully attached them to both the collars and cuffs of my shirt. I also chose to further decorate with stitch and other add ons such as buttons. I am happy with how my work turned out, I do however wish I had more time to further my design.
