Week 10 Printing

Before the printmaking workshop, I was experimenting around with mono printing, and I took influence from Damien Hirst’s Piece that was named “Apollo’s foot” the rat had a lot of wavy lines and different textures to work with so I carved into the sheet of plastic and just let my hand go free through the lines and try different techniques. This piece was purely experimental just to see what would happen if acrylic paints were laid down with a bit of water and pressed together on a piece of paper the results came out with a cell-like pattern of water patches in some areas which I have highlighted in my sketchbook and shown these patterns got me really intrigued and it was something that I could definitely use my final piece but if it didn’t add too much action to it.

For our next workshop, we were down in the printing room and playing around with screen printing. I can say that I did not enjoy this at all just because screen printing is very difficult, and you have less control over the outcome since different materials can react differently with the screen printing itself. It took a lot of manual labour, and I did not really enjoy the process at all it was nothing special to me and it was something that I cannot see myself doing in the future, but I am grateful for the experience because now I know something that I should stay away from and not try in the future. I am happy with the prints but at the same time I feel a bit sad because the colours were not as bright as I wanted them to be, the textures were off on you can’t really tell what is going on in the piece.
