Week 5: Texturing

This week we started out with another exercise. We were given a model to animate jumping onto a platform.

I’m still not as proficient in 3D animation as I am in 2D. I find that the computer filling in the gaps between frames throws me off and makes me think I don’t need as many frames since the animation looks smooth, even though it flows weirdly. This is something I will have to work on.

I decided that my rolling pin model needed to be redone as it looked too separate from the pastry models. I redid my design, making it more compact and less lanky, and added the large, thick eyes and round eyebrows that several of the pastries have, while keeping the colour design I chose earlier.

I then created this model in blender and textured it – this is how it came out:

I really like this design, and the painted textures works beautifully with it. Though, after a discord voice meeting, we discussed that the rolling pin runs over one of the cast in the first scene, so it may have dough remains on it. I created this second model to meet that demand.

After sending this design into the group chat, it was suggest that I, along with Joyce, retexture the other models so they all look more similar. This is what I am working on at the moment, though Substance is still quite unfamiliar to me and I have trouble navigating it, which is lengthening the process.

I took some advice from Joyce on how to texture sponge (as she had done with her cake character) so they’d look more similar.

This is the original texturing done by Ingrid.

The colours were a little too realistic and unsaturated, and didn’t really match with the other characters or the bright vibes we were going for. With Ingrid’s permission and input, I changed the colours to be more vibrant.
