Week 3- Office Etiquette and professionalism

Today Daniels lecture looked at different ways to be professional and useful in the workplace/studio or at meetings. It’s important to create a first and lasting impression on the employer in the workplace and the interview stage. If we follow Daniel’s advice, we will have no problems with our placements if we show we are willing to give them a hand and work hard and listen carefully to what they say.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said “Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself”

An American writer named Tom Peters said “The simple act of paying positive attention to people has a great deal to do with productivity.”

We also looked at how to answer phone calls and Email clients appropriately.

Daniels best piece advice is to Watch and learn. Pay attention to what EVERYONE is doing [not just the designers} and why they do what they do.

If we follow Daniel’s advice, we will have no problems with our placements if we show we are willing to give them a hand and work hard and listen carefully to what they say.

Before the end of class Daniel put us into Breakout Groups. This is were we had to conduct and meeting and we had to discuss about todays topics. Each member had a valuable role. This involved Notetaker, Meeting leader, Dumb Question asker and Contributors.

Daniel asked us this week to practice writing mockup emails for specific subject areas. As well as continuing to work on our research blogs and familiarizing ourselves with companies of excellence and in the local industry.

To date so far I have started to research different company’s locally in the Uk and Ireland I would be interested in. I found some great companies hopefully they have roles available for placement students. At the moment I’m still working on my CV and Cover letter.
