For week 1, we were shown how characters can be broken down into simpler forms. This process makes it easier to repose the character while still retaining the form of the character making it more recognisable for an audience.
We were given the task of breaking down 3 characters into their most basic shapes to form an understanding of how they are constructed.
At first, when looking at the characters it seemed intimidating to draw them but once I broke them down into simple shapes I realised how easy it was to draw them.
In the future, I’ll break down characters I create into simple shapes to make it quicker and easier to draw them multiple times over.
The characters I chose: (left to right)
- Cuphead from a game called ‘Cuphead’
- Mr Incredible from a movie called ‘The Incredible’
- Professor Layton from the game franchise ‘Professor Layton’
I chose these characters as I liked how shapely and different they all looked. I like the exaggerated proportions of Cuphead, the shape orientated style of Mr Incredible and the simplicity of Professor Layton shapes and silhouette.
