For week 2, we were shown different types of composition and perspectives. These can usually be broken down into one, two or three point perspectives. We were also shown different compositions techniques like the rule of thirds and the golden ratio. These can be used to direct the viewer’s eye to a certain aspects of a piece.

We were tasked with finding 3 backgrounds from animated media and labelling the different points of perspective.

Game franchise = Professor Layton – Scottland Yard

Two Point Perspective

Game franchise = Professor Layton – Torrido

One point perspective

Game franchise = Professor Layton – Tunnel

One point perspective

I chose to reference the backgrounds used in the Professor Layton game franchise as I knew it would be simple to get the backgrounds without character obstructing the setting making it easier to find the perspective used.

I found that the one point perspectives were easier to identify the vanishing point than the two point perspectives as their vanishing points could be very far outside the frame of the image.

By doing this exercise I now have a better understanding of what different perspectives look like and how to identify them.
