Morning Class:

This morning the class had a few technical difficulties and was delayed until 10:50am. To begin, Alec showed us an example of some facial and lip sync animation and gave a presentation on what to improve from last semester and facial animation. Next we looked at the studio library which is an addon for Maya, it allows the user to create and store premade facial shapes to save the animator time.

—Exercise—

We were supposed to make a lip sync animation to a sound recording provided to us but due to the delay this morning we mainly focused on figuring out how to use studio library and how to move the Azra rig to create different facial expressions and mouth movements.

Afternoon Class:

After lunch we split back into our groups from last week and prepared to give the presentations. All the groups presented what they had made over the last week and we received some great feedback on what we need to be doing for next Monday, i.e. we need to streamline and create a consistent style for the the texturing, figure out an overall art direction for the game and condense what we have to make it more manageable and achievable within the time frame.

Homework/Assignment 1:

For homework this week we were asked to refine the overall scope of the game and it’s main narrative and control elements. We also had to figure out the overall style and look of the game and create a style guide.

Progress:

This week I selected which assets I wanted to concept, model and texture for the game from the asset list spreadsheet that Karl made. I chose the campfire, tents and a woodcutter’s axe. I created the concept art based on the style guide that Benny made, then I put the concepts on the discord for the team to decide on which they wanted me to model and made any amendments to the designs that they wanted.

Next I focused on modelling and UV Unwrapping the campfire asset. During this time Curtis had modelled a group of rocks and stones so I asked him if I could use them around the base of the campfire which he said yes to.
