Morning Class:

For this morning’s class we had a lecture on scheduling; what it is, how it ties into budgeting and how large a part time management plays. Next we covered how to develop your ideas and script, the research you will need to carry out for moodboards and animation style and  how to develop your concept.

We then covered what was required for pre-production, production and post-production of this project. For pre-production; concept art for the characters and the environment, storyboarding and animatics to visualise your story and the dialogue that may be used.

For production; characters and rigging, animation, background and assets, lighting and rendering. For post production; editing and compositing everything, fixes that are needed and music and sound FX.

Next was tips for breaking down a schedule like getting the key dates sorted, figuring out your frame rate per day and blocking out the dates for each main stage of the project.

We also covered the 20% buffer which allows time for sickness, holidays and breaks within a schedule without affecting the deadline.

—Activity 1—

We were asked to estimate how many: characters, shots, backgrounds and frames of animations we would have in the project at the current time.

—Activity 2—

We were given a black timetable for the two semesters and asked to fill in the rough schedule of the project. After we finished, Alec showed his schedule and how he would break down the time.

We then had a lecture on timetabling and balance and how a good routine for life and work, when to take breaks to avoid burnout or demotivation and keeping note and annotations for the blog will make it much easier at the end when you write the blog.

—Activity 3—

We were then split up and tasked with talking to other groups about our current progress and ideas for the project.

Afterwards, Alec provided some Excel sheets that we can modify and use to schedule, and Michael gave a tip about the importance of storyboarding before heavy 3D modelling and character design as some things may never be seen, this will make your process more efficient and avoid a waste of time on something that is unnecessary.

Afternoon Class:

After lunch we discussed our current progress on our major project with Alec and Michael.

Michael gave us some feedback on how to make our story snapper and advised removing the dialogue we had considered as it may slow the pacing down.
