User Flow Diagram and User Journey Map

To finally, and fully, understand my users’ needs, I must make a user flow diagram and user journey map. These will also allow me to get a better understanding of how to make my app as easy to navigate as possible.

Journey Map

User journey maps are about the users’ emotions as they navigate through the app, interacting with each component and touchpoint. Thinking about how they feel whilst using the product, will give me the opportunity to avoid any potential issues before I run into them mid-design. I can also use the “pain points” and “questions” sections to find opportunities to make the experience more enjoyable for the user. I think that these opportunities could also give me more ideas for which features to include within the app in order to make it more helpful.

User Flow Diagram

A user flow diagram, much like a site map, is a way to lay out how the app will be navigated. A user flow diagram, however, considers the decisions that a user may be faced with whilst moving through the app. Making a user flow diagram will help me to better understand how a user might interact with my app. This understanding will allow me to ensure that I can meet my users’ needs more efficiently.

Thoughts:

Now that I have completed this part of the research and planning phase, I feel a lot more confident moving into the design. I think I have a really solid understanding of my users, and how they will interact with my product. Making these maps and diagrams in the last couple of days has also given me a few new ideas for features to include within the app! I think that having the option to view helpful articles that have been written, and approved by healthcare professionals would be a really nice addition to the app. I am also really considering a community page, where people can find others to relate to – and get advice from if they have only recently been diagnosed.
