App Intros and Animation

I decided to read the article about Netflix unveiling its new logo animation.

Netflix created this animation in order to set them apart as a production company, and not just a streaming service. I thought this was a really clever way to do it, as the animation is extremely recognisable, and memorable. Creating a unique animation like this can be great for business, as it truly does set you apart – not just as a production company, but also from the competition. Their animation isn’t like some other boring ones I’ve seen before (sorry, Columbia Pictures…), because it is quite a fun experience to watch.

I read in the article that the light spectrum part of the animation, is actually made from some Netflix Original film thumbnails turned on their sides. I thought this was such a nice touch, and something I never properly noticed before. Within their brand animation, they have actually used products from their brand – which is pretty cool! Doing this further enforces that their brand is a production company.

I want to create a cool animation within my project (the prototype at least), that will also set me apart. I have an idea to make the 11 in the “Apollo 11” title fly off the page like a rocket. This will be the first animation you see in the whole project, and I think it could be really cool if I do it well enough. Seeing as the content I am using is about the moon landing, and Apollo 11 mission, I think that turning my title page into a rocket animation will also re-enforce my brand. I really hope that, just like with Netflix’s animation, it will be able to stand out enough to be remembered.

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed reading through this article, and learning more about the Netflix intro animation, and how it came to be. As mentioned before, I think having a cool touchpoint like this for your brand can be a really great way to make it stand out from the crowd – as well as making the brand more memorable because of it.
