Follow up From Group Crit

I got some really good suggestions for how I can improve my design from last weeks group critique. I wanted to take on this advice and make the necessary changes before moving on and designing new screens.

New Symptoms Icon

The first thing I wanted to do was change the symptoms icon, as I needed to sketch out some ideas first.

Here are my initial ideas:

I liked the illustration on the bottom left the most, although I did also make a digital version of the final design on the top row as well.

Here are the two digital designs:

In the end, I decided on the first icon, with a person holding their stomach. This is because the bigger symptoms of IBS are in the gut area, and not the stomach itself – so it makes the most sense. I also thought that this icon looks a lot better, and better matches the brand style.

Adding More Space and Fixing Community icon

The next thing I did was add a bit more spacing to the food diary screen. I think it looks a lot better this way, and each food item section is more clearly separated.

Here is a comparison of the screen before and after adding more spacing:

While I was doing this, I actually realised that the text for each time shown doesn’t align with the edge of the heading above it, so I decided to go through and adjust this as well.

I feel a lot happier with how this screen looks now, and I also found a shade of blue that contrasts well with the background (accessibility checking post to come).

You can also see the small change I have made to the community icon between these two screens. I simply removed the heart between the two people. My thinking behind adding this in the first place, was that the community page would connect IBS sufferers. The more I looked at it though, the more it looked like the design was for an IBS Tinder – so I’m glad to have removed it now!

Thoughts:

I am really happy with how my design is turning out, and I’m excited to start bringing it to life in the prototyping stage.
