Icons

In this week’s lecture we learnt that with icons, you should reduce images to their most simple forms.

Icons are an integral part of visual identities, and so the style and consistency of icons are very important to consider.

This week we were tasked with creating some of our own icons to use in our future travel app prototypes. I decided that, for this, I’d create quite general icons that could be used in a few different contexts since I haven’t yet come up with a solid plan for my app.

Seeing as I also don’t have a colour theme set in stone yet, I used a greyscale while designing these icons on Figma.

The icon set I ended up with included:

  • Home icon
  • Plane tickets
  • Portrait silhouette
  • Location pin
  • Hotel/Bed icon
  • Plate & Cutlery icon

Something I will consider when resizing these icons is that my strokes will have to be thicker so they are more visible.

I will add colour to the icons when I have come up with my final idea for the travel app, and I will likely also refine them further. I really enjoyed starting this part of the project and I think I will definitely experiment more with icon design in the future.
