Showreel

I took inspiration from showreel by industry professionals I found on ArtStation and their own personal blog. They had clear and polished showreels which were not too long and keep me engaged the whole time. They a collection of clean and rough work which I loved as it showed their progress. Also the music wasn’t to distracting which added to the videos charm. First one is an showreel animatic by Rebecca Reynolds a storyboard artist and animation showreel by Patrycja Cmak an animator and illustrator.

This was my first attempt to create a showreel in Adobe After Effects. I used videos from recent and old work. I made sure I used things that showed off my skills and was my best work. I am waiting for feedback from my one to one tutorial to see what I can do to improve it. There is an error in the video so I have to go back and fix it.

After my tutorial I went back and did a few changed to my showreel. I put my most recent work at the begin instead of the end. It was my strongest work and it was best to show it off first. I was also advised to to put my email at the beginning of the reel as well as the end. Taking this feedback onboard I finally got my showreel finished and I’m with how it turned out. Finally I added music to match my style which was upbeat and fun.

Portfolio

For my portfolio I made a ArtStation account as it was recommended by the lecturers. I firstly put in my information such as my name, where I was based and a description of my interests and education. Also short list of skill sets which helps people see what you specialise in. I took inspiration from Rebecca Reynolds ArtStation ( https://www.artstation.com/brobexx )and saw she used a mixture of personal work and storyboard projects.

Heres my final outcome for my portfolio which I’m overall very happy with. I think it looks clean and is well presented. It shows off my work in a very professional manner and keeps it organised. I will be using it in the future.

From my feedback from my tutorial I was guided to make sure my projects had a clear description to tell employers why I created a piece and what is used for. I made sure to add that to my works before submission. https://www.artstation.com/katiemcmullan
