This week we are using one and two point perspective to draw over our favourite animation backgrounds. We also had to complete 12 thumbnails studies based on our world themes (which I missed read oops). For this exercise we had to consider using 1, 2 or 3 point perspective. Perspective is used to represent the way building or objects appear smaller or further into the distance. It adds depth and dimension into a scene. This is done by using vanishing points and a horizon line. this gives the illusion of a drawing being three-dimensional and realistic.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken

For this scene the vanishing point is further up the canvas as we are looking down at the scene from the ground. In this scene the building and characters  are tilted so I added parallel and rotated them.

Sym Bionic Titan

For this one I struggled with the 1 perspective as I didn’t know where to put the point. It should have been off to the side a bit more to be more inline with the building. However doing this mistake has made me revisit this and learn from it.

A Monster in Paris

Lastly this scene the point was easy to recognise as the Eiffel Tower is the main focus in the image. I have struggled with this exercise this week as I found it confusing. However I will go back to this and learn from it by watching videos and looking at books.

12 Thumbnails

The 12 thumbnails were very fun to draw and experiment with. If I was going back to it I would try different perspectives as I played it safe and only used 1 point perspective.

For this task I used this video from “BaM Animation” called “Perspective Drawing in Photoshop! Grids and Tips”.  I found it very helpfully when doing my work and the video had an easy way of explaining how perspective worked. It also showed examples of others peoples work and how they fixed their mistakes.

Overall I enjoyed this homework and had fun trying to figure out the perspective line however I found it very difficult as I am not used to drawing backgrounds. I will take the knowledge I gained from this exercise and use it in my different tasks. Hopefully my skills will grow with some practice.
