Morning Class
To start the morning class, we did a quiz about the content we had to watch before class to test our knowledge. After the quiz we were tasked with watching videos on how to make landscapes in Unreal Engine.
Video 1 – how to make landscapes
– start with a small brush and work your way bigger to add the mountains
– using the noise map makes the mountains look more natural
Video 2 – Texturing
– Add a material and call it M_Landscape
– add a node called LandscapeLayerBlend, select it a click
the plus icon, name them
– select the textures and normal maps and drag them into the window
– organize the textures using comments
– plug in the nodes
Video 3 – applying the textures
– select the landscape and drag the texture file onto the material
– click create layer info and add layers for the different materials
– paint on the textures
Video 4 – adding landscaping material
– can paint on the foliage by adjusting the density and scale of the foliage models
This is the final product.
Afternoon Class
In the afternoon session we were tasked with blocking out our scenes for Assessment 1, first we watched a video explaining how to add a human model into the scene to get the scale correct. For a block out I had to remember to use simple shapes and not go crazy with unimportant details. I followed this tutorial on how to make the stairs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kp7d9k00M0
Here is the block out so far, I also made a quick playblast of the scene to show off the model.
Overall, I like the way it is coming however I think the room needs to be bigger as it is a little hard to move the camera around.
Presentation
We were also tasked with creating a presentation about our project; mainly focusing on the colour pallets we were thinking of, concept art of the room or props and the block out of the room. We also made a list of common props we had all used and then split them between the group as equally as possible in a table. The room shape and scale is completely up to the individual to model.
