This Week’s Overview

This week I would be creating more models for the video game and texturing them in Substance Painter, nothing too special, but just creating a lot more than I have done in the weeks before.

Creating New Assets

With most of my bigger models on the verge of completion, I created more smaller models In order to fill up the scene. I made two smaller statues, one made of stone representing the light side of the wolf, and one made of wood representing the dark side.  This should have helped illustrate more of the culture and the corruption it’s suffering but something was not quite right with it. I would make a cross to include in the graveyard as it would be a visually appropriate sign that Christianity was starting to encroach on the existing and embedded culture of the land in the game. Finally I would make an owl that could be put in the trees as well as a joke owl which would be hidden as an Easter egg in all levels. All of these models were created in Maya.

Substance Painter

I worked in Substance Painter to start adding final textures to my models. Whilst I was happy with my work, the look of the game changed to a more cartoon like version with brighter colours, so I had to revisit all of my creations as they were all way too realistic. For the joke Owl (Easter Egg) I specifically based his colours on The Penguin from the Batman 66 television series just because it was a recent thing I was watching and it would add to the Easter egg value of it.
