This Week’s Overview
This week with the last team vote on the final design for the wolf statue I started to expand and develop my concept art and fully accelerate on the creation of the statue itself in Maya.
Concept Art Creation
As mentioned last week the wolf statue had already taken five weeks of this assignment. I continued to create the wolf statue with only one last piece of concept drawing left for me to do. That concept page would contain quick rough drawings and key points of the statue such as the antlers and claws. These drawings would help me to distinguish between both the light and dark sides and what I would be aiming for with each component. A point to note here is how the face is soft and motherly on one side but then is harsher with overgrown tusks on the other. The gauntlet’s also mirror this aesthetic with one has a skull tied to it with a soft rope and the other by a slimy mutated tendril. Overall I am happy with how I did those quick drawings and it should make my job a lot easier going forward.
3D Modeling
With my concept fully developed and everyone having their say on the design, I started to accelerate the creation of the wolf statue. I had already started the basic form of the statue in Maya last week, But this week I would get the entire base model done. I even added elements that weren’t present on the concept art, such as having one arm made purely of bone or repositioning the skulls to look forward. It was at this point my Lecturer Henry told me that I would have everything I need to create the model in Maya and I wouldn’t need to use Blender which is a relief since I didn’t have to learn how to use another program just for modeling. Overall while it’s not complete my statue is coming along nicely, but if I have the opportunity next week I will talk to my team members about getting other assignments and tasks or else I’d be stuck on this whole project only making the one thing. My concern being that I was not making enough of a contribution.
