Days Before Class
In the days before class, I was creating a table in Maya. Instead of creating the same table design in the example of the tutor, I tried to create my own design. I base the designs off Viking woodworks, combine with my love of abstract art styles, liked warped paintings. I am happy with the table top, but my legs do seem off. I do still like what I was trying to do with my legs, it just needs more work to keep them for looking off. The Textures did not turn out right. Even the automatic process and pre-made materials did not turn out right. It all looks stretched out and has a pattern that look artificial design. The class this week will cover texturing and UV mapping. I will be getting a better idea on how to solve this problem.
During Class Time
In class, we went over the process of applying textures as well as editing them in the UV editor. I already knew how to apply textures onto my modals but going over the UV editor was a blessing. Learning how to generate pre-set UV maps as well as cutting and sowing the different faces together make the job of applying texture much easier. It also nice to learn how to create UV both manually and automatically for both simple and complex modal respectively. It also a nice reminder that you can create the textures in Photoshop or Illustrator to match the UV modal.
To nail these points home, we when over some example ourselves, including Dices, a cylinder and a human hand. The dices and cylinder were easy for me, but the hand was more tricky due to the more complex shape. At the end of class however, I was getting the hang of how to piece together the map into a workable state. Now I will be more capable of solving the issues I had with the table.
Rest of the Week
For the rest of the week, I will be deciding on what items from the list I want to create for my 1st assignment. I think the I will be going with the sword and the shield. I will be colleting refences images as to what shape and style the sword and shield with be along with the thematic. I am interested in the idea of mixing Tolkien-like Dwarves and Pirates of the Caribbean themes. I love both art styles and it will make final design my own, different to the rest of the class. I will also be changing up the format of the blog so instead of the weekly format, It will be one page with lots of images and paragraphs focusing on the creating of the final product.
