The days before Class.
For the upcoming 3d class on Wednesday, I follow the Tutor’s exercise on creating a vase using Maya. I try doing the task on my own at first and put my own spin on the project. I like angular pottery, so I created a more squares vase and used Bevel to make the shape more natural. The other tools I used in the creation of the modal I did need to use the Tutor’s video to find out how to add more edges in order to shape the rim and base. I also had issues adding UV textures. Even when the knowledge was more recent in my head when I was at the animation course in the SRC last year, UV mapping was still a hard task for me to do. I was able to create automictic UV textures, this is done by assigning premade martials.
The Class.
During class we covered the basic of 3d modeling in Maya and the 1st assignment of the 3D course work. I have work with both Maya and Blender in the past, both in my own time and the SRC Collage in Banbridge and Newry, but my skill are rusty. With this class and the video recordings, I can build up my skills and improve both the build time and quality of my future modals.
We also covered the 1st major assignment for 3d in detail and with examples of last year class’s work. Basically, I have to pick from a list of selected items and created them in Maya. I will have to design my items base on my own research as well as modal the final design. I will also have to add textures and real time reader the final project in a program called Sketchfab. I will also have to create a blog coving how I completed this task.
Over the Next Week.
Over the course of the next week, I am to create a table using Maya, ether based out the tutor’s own example or a design of your own choices. I should also figure out which set of items I would like to create for my 3D project. This list can be seen below:
- Windmill
- Mantel Clock
- Treasure chest & treasure
- Sword & shield
- Sci-Fi door
- Old Well
- Magic Witch / Wizard Staff
