Days Before Class
Over the course of the week I continued to create my backgrounds as well as working on some of my characters. The group I was in chatted over the team Discord, sharing ideas, and updating each other on the progress we were making. At this stage I had some highly detailed designs and footnotes for two of the Monster designs and Alien Militia drawn out roughly on paper. I was pleased with the designs, though I did not make more of them, or digitally recreate them, as the priority for this task was the backgrounds. As for those background thumbnails I was causing myself some problems by making them way more detailed than they needed to be. Instead of sticking to one colour, I used several, thus making it more complicated for me to complete the task. I completed most of the background and character drawings working into the evenings, but because I had made them too detailed one or two of them were not completed by the start of the class on Thursday. I learned from this that in the early stages I need to make things simpler. I also created 3 one point perspectives and 3 two point perspectives of my favorite animations to help me understand the layout and viewing angles of the scene.
Thursday Class
Thursday’s class was spent looking at everybody’s work and Alec was giving lots of feedback and advice. When it came to my work, he liked my character designs and thought my thumbnails designs told quite a bit of a story, but added I did put too much work on myself. He advised me to try not to think too far ahead, so I know now that I need to try and pace myself a bit better.
The lecturer Alec then decided to switch all the teams around which came as a bit of a surprise, but he explained that this was to get us used to working with different people. Whilst I understand why this was done, I had enjoyed working with the first team and we had put a lot of thought into our world. However, it did not take long for the new team to adapt the current idea they were working on to include those of the new members. This group’s idea was about hybrid animals trying to escape a scientific prison and we were able to add some of our ideas to be included, for example what was in the world outside the prison and what the hybrids would look like. I also created a mood board for the Lab and I was even able to reuse the character mood board from my previous Group.
Homework
Over the course of the following week we were to create six more background thumbnails and work on designs for our project. We were also to set up our blog.
