Task:

During week 2, we looked more in depth at the pose to pose method of animation and how it allows the animator to better control and adjust the key poses of a motion. We also briefly discussed the straight ahead method and how it creates more dynamic movements. This week’s task was to create an animation using the pose to pose method with at least three distinct key poses. For this task I chose to use Blender as I would like to better my understanding of how to animate within the system.

Research:

When researching I specifically wanted to look into how to create strong poses and silhouettes so that it was easy to tell what my character was doing. I also looked up some references of people lifting a box or objects as I want to be able to portray that the box has a little weight to it.

Process:

At the start, I blocked out my key poses to ensure that it portrays a character who is confident in his strength picking up a box. Once I was happy with my key poses I then move onto creating some breakdown poses to help me lay out the motion of my animation better then it’s onto the inbetweens to create a smoother motion. After I was satisfied with the inbetweens I moved onto creating some overlap and follow through like in the body and the arms.

Result:

I like the outcome of my animation as I feel I achieved strong silhouettes in my key poses and the motion is smooth but I feel as though I could have held the pose of him lifting the box as well as added more anticipation to his body when he goes to stand back upright with the box but overall I’m happy with what I achieved in this animation and I was an interesting challenge to work with a prop.
