Design and Strategy

This week we talked about design and strategy. I have been unwell, and couldn’t go into class, but Paul uploaded the slides to look through.

The first slides were about those using AI for design, but how AI lacks the empathy, creativity and strategy that we, as human designers have, so it cannot replace the quality of work that we can create (thank God for that…).

The slides then went on to show, and teach us about BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goal).

“ A BHAG is a long-term goal that everyone in a company can understand and rally behind. BHAGs are meant to excite and energise people in a way that quarterly targets and lengthy missions statements often fail to.”

So, what would we create if we re-imagined healthcare?

We then went on to frame our design question for this project, using Miro and IDEOs ‘Frame your Design Challenge’ method.

I really enjoyed this task, and it made me think a lot about what I could actually do with my current idea for this project.

My design frame results:

I found this task to be really helpful in making me think about what kind of solutions I could possibly come up with for the problem, as well as the difficulties I may run into with these solutions.

I also liked thinking about my idea with more consideration, as it has helped me realise that this actually might not be the route I want to go down for this project…

My current design question is as follows:

“How can we design an app that can help a first-time parent manage their baby’s health in a comfortable way?”

Seeing as it is still early days, I am going to begin some research to find more solutions to answer this question, but I won’t be too upset if my idea develops into something else along the way.
