Imad Awan – Concept Artist and Illustrator
A man I watch when I want to attempt to create concept art is this man, while showing you how he does it he also makes his videos incredibly enjoyable to watch. Most of his videos are time-lapse videos with post commentary over it, where he explains each and everything he does.
His works
Imad works using a technique called ‘Matte Painting’ matte painting is a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that is not present at the filming location. Paint has now been superseded by digital images created using photo references, 3-D models, and drawing tablets. Matte painters combine their digitally matte painted textures within computer-generated 3-D environments, allowing for 3-D camera movement. Imad uses Photoshop to paint over the references he uses.
For this piece he used NIVIDA’s Gaugan learning AI which create landscapes based of what you draw in the screen beside it. You set the climate, time of day, the actual landscape (e.g grass, soil, rock, sand and ocean).
Samurai’s
What is amazing is the fact that he use real life images of the images he includes in his piece, from the sword to the armor and even the background. He then paints heavily over them with really textured brushes in Photoshop.
INFECTED – Concept Art Environment Design
This piece was created during the initial pandemic of Covid-19, it of course with the chromatic aberration and film grain added a sense of eeriness to the scene.
