Vic Bell is an Illustrator, Iconographer and Brand Designer. I decided to do a pocket profile on her work as I find it unique but simple and I feel that I can learn a lot from it.
Through her Instagram, she posts many of her illustrations and projects she is working on. They are all very bright, fun and aesthetically pleasing which I am sure will be very inspiring when I begin exploring illustration further.

Her website enabled me to dig further into the work she has done with different brands. One that stood out to me was her work with the notes app ‘Bear’. She talked a bit about the guidelines she was given by the app when designing the bear character. For example, the stroke weights, shapes and colour shades. I think receiving these guides was beneficial as they enabled her to remain consistent when illustrating different screens on the app. This means the user will know what to expect and it will be more visually appealing.

She also worked with the app Uber doing iconography. She created an icon system for their app and website covering many different areas. For example, she created a map icon. She had started with a bigger, more detailed design and then stripped it back to it’s simplest form.
This taught me that you don’t need a highly detailed design to convey a message. I think the small, simple icon is just as effective, it isn’t distracting, and it gets the point across.
I will continue following the work of Vic Bell as I find her work very intriguing and inspiring.
