To export the character model and the skeleton to Unreal Engine, select the character mesh and the skeleton in the outliner. Then file, export selection, make sure the current present is set to Audodesk Media and Entertainment. Click the Geometry tab and select Smoothing Groups. Click the Embed Media tab and tick the box. The file should export as an FBX.
To export an animation file, only select the skeleton. Then file, export selection, make sure the current present is set to Audodesk Media and Entertainment. Click the Geometry tab and select Smoothing Groups. Under the Animation tab, tick the Bake animation box and make sure the animation starts at 0 and ends at the number of frames used in the animation. Click the Embed Media tab and tick the box. The file should export as an FBX.
To set up a game file in Unreal Engine, select third person, no starter content, create.
To add the character and animation to Unreal, select the content folder and make a new folder called character, import the character model with the skeleton. Reset the FBX Import Options to default.
Create a new folder for the animations and import them. In the import window select the character skeleton in the mesh tab.
Right click, animation, animation blueprint, select the character skeleton then click ok.
To use the imported character, select the third person character and select the mesh on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side select the anim class and select the ani animation blueprint you created. Under the mesh tab select the character mesh. Select compile and save.

After receiving feedback from the tutors, next week I will make the model higher poly. I will also make a set of tools for the background.
