Textile & Fashion- Knitted T-shirt

This task involved recycling an old t-shirt by cutting the fabric into strips then looping them through one another, which was actually crochet using my hands.

I actually to really like the overall result, I think that it looks very effective, especially on a black or coloured background. There are so many possibilities to use this technique. It’s possible to be used for tie dye, to embroider on, to make a collage or even incorporate into a garment.

Textile & Fashion- Fashion workshop

Here we had a fashion and textile workshop were we had a great time experiencing different approaches to generating ideas and perspectives to creating a garment.

Our first task was to complete a sewing sample using the sewing machine, creating folds in the fabric. The second task was to create an origami coat/jacket using paper. Our third task was to move a piece of fabric around to create a dress idea. The final task was to sketch out your design ideas from your fabric samples onto a mannequin and use geometric shapes to create the shape of the garment.

Textile & Fashion- Photoshop

In this workshop we were shown how to combine two patterns that is related to our theme and colour palette.

These images were amalgamated together using various tools, almost having a transparent approach as you can see both images coming through together. I had also edited these images using the following saturation and contrast tools.

Textiles & Fashion- Origami dress making

Here I’ve created a few origami dresses, two of them using coloured paper and the other on a larger scale by covering an A4 page with coloured making tape whilst still keeping to my colour palette.

There was a lot of enjoyment in making these dresses. Although I have thought of some other ways to incorporate these into other abstract pieces by using patterns/designs you’ve already made or transforming them into an embroidery piece.

Textile & Fashion – Embroidery/stitching samples

These are a series of embroidery and stitch samples, experimenting with different stitches and colours.

These patterns are influenced by my paintings and collages and using a variety of stitches including: runnings stitches, back stitches, stem stitches, cross stitches, blanket stitches etc.

I’ve also incorporated other fabrics such as recycled denim, t- shirts, paper, felt and watercolour dyed fabric. I had a lot of enjoyment experimenting with fabrics and I like how they create a nice texture.

Textile & Fashion – Mixed media experimental

For this project my chosen words are based on 1950’s and citrus. For my colour scheme I’ll be using colours that relate to the theme including: orange, yellow, green and blue.

Here I’ve created a series of pattern ideas using a variety of media’s including: watercolour, pen, thread, paper collage, and embroidery.

I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with these materials and combining them together to create abstract pieces. Personally, I find that either embroidering or overlapping another piece of artwork really makes it interesting.

Textile & Fashion- Brainstorm & Dictionary research

I’ve brainstormed various words associated with citrus and 1950’s. This is something I find useful before I start experimenting with materials and colours etc.

I’ve also researched a variety of words using a dictionary that didn’t relate to textile & fashion. Originally I was supposed to research my main two chosen words but decided to look up.

Textile & Fashion- Mood Board

Here I’ve created two mood boards one by hand and the other digitally using canva. My theme for this project is based on two chosen words which are citrus and 1950’s. I intend on research on these particular words and gathering a variety of materials that relate to my colour scheme. I also plan to experiment with various techniques creating abstract and textured pieces.
