On week 2, we started put with some animation exercises on blender. Our first challenge was to animate a ball bouncing onto a raised platform.
This is my animation. While it’s not terrible, I honestly think I can do better – something about the timing and action seems off, though I can’t quite figure out exactly what, and therefore cannot seem to fix it. I may leave this a few weeks and then try the exercise again after learning some more skills in class and see if I’ve improved.
The second task was to animate a pendulum slowing down and stopping in a realistic way.
I think this exercise went much better than the first. The three parts of the pendulum’s arm move individually to give a nice, realistic look to the motion.
After this, we split into our groups and discussed our stories for the 30-second 3D animation.
My group has decided to go for a group of pastries being chased from a bakery, with pastel a colour palette and an oxymoronically dark storyline wherein each character is killed before they manage to make it to freedom.
This is my rough storyboard idea.
We all created a storyboard and then held a group voice chat to merge them all together.
This is the rough collaborated storyboard.
Where the characters were first going to be
- cookie
- Doughnut
- Cake
- Cupcake
- Croissant
being chased by a rolling pin, we are now going to have the rolling pin as its’ own character. I will design the rolling pin, and the cookie (which was originally my character) is going to be scrapped.
These are my rough designs for this character.
