For our second week of 3D digital literacy, we were asked to follow one of the tutorial videos then make at least the first two practice models from the list. I followed the milkshake tutorial then tried my hand at making the kids wagon and the snake on a branch,
Below are my milkshake, kids wagon and snake on a branch:
Milkshake:
I found making this milkshake cup interesting and had fun making it as well. It gave me the opportunity to learn about new tools I hadn’t yet used before in Maya. It was fascinating learning how to make a model double layered and transparent as well as creating liquid inside of the cup. All in all, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and I like the colours I chose as well.
Kids Wagon:
Making the wagon was interesting to do as it made me really think about what starting shapes I should use for different aspects of the wagon. Trying to make a model based solely on a image from home really tests my knowledge of how to use the different tools within Maya properly. I think my little wagon turned out pretty well and I think I’m starting to understand what textures to use for different materials of objects. I’m really proud of how this model turned out.
Snake on a branch:
I found trying to model the snake on a branch much harder than the wagon despite there technically being less parts to it since a snake is one continuous shape. I definitely struggled using the curve tool and I couldn’t manage to bring the snakes body closer to the branch. Despite the few issues I had, I’m proud of myself for managing to make the snake although I probably should’ve smoothed out the head a bit more. All in all, I think this model turned out well and I’m pretty happy with how it looks.
I found the sweep mesh pretty easy to use and I will most likely use it in some capacity in my final model as I feel it has a lot of potential.
