SEMESTER TWO – WEEK TWO
MONOGRAMS AND LETTER MARKS
01/02/21
This week we began to talk about monograms and letter marks. You will find my notes for this weeks lecture below
A monogram is a motif made by overlapping or combining two or more letters to form one symbol.
We looked at ;
- letter axes
- examples of famous monograms (ICONIC MONOGRAMS)
- abstract letters
and were given key to remember, which I’ve listed in my notes.
During class we were also tasked with writing our name using only geometric shapes
I decided to do some research on IBM and Luton Airport and how its evolved, linked below
Following my research, it was my turn to start thinking about my monogram. I began by making a pin board for inspiration – linked below

Which I then turned into a mood board – linked below
Started sketching some ideas, nothing too refined yet
In upcoming weeks I will get feedback and refine my design and then digitise.
Feeling unsure at the moment as to which I will go with.
As I develop my ideas I’m sure it’ll become more clear.
