Having now grasped the fundamentals of biped movement, the aim of this, our second Animation Strategies assignment, was to gain a better understanding of body mechanics and performance, and guided by tutorials and workshops exercises, to create two final animations reflecting our learning in these areas: one depicting a heavy object being lifted from the ground, and the other a lip-sync, acted and performed to dialogue from any 8-10 second audio clip.

As before, final animations could be submitted in our preferred format; 2D, 3D, or a mix of both. However, given the positive tutor feedback I’d received for my first assignment, and as by now I’d become au fait with the hierarchy, functionality and constraints of the free Blender Studios IK/FK ‘Rain’ rig, as you can see from the images above, I decided to again create both of my submissions in a 3D format.

Should you like to give 3D character animation a whirl too, the latest, updated version (V3) of the ‘Rain’ rig is available at: https://studio.blender.org/download-source/89/89041158b6761455f4a2b25ef5881135/89041158b6761455f4a2b25ef5881135.zip .
