Updated Storyboard: Scene One (24.11.23)
During the afternoon session, we were to receive tutor feedback on our storyboards, as well as planning our group animatic, and if not already decided, to finalise the transitions from one segment to another.
Having my storyboard completed, I was happy to receive positive feedback, that apart from making my animation more appealing by using my queue characters more, and that I could add a character in the close up shot of the door, I was good to go with my animatic. However, I was so disappointed to learn that the other group members were at totally different stages of their storyboard creation, and that putting the final group animation behind schedule; no one else had completed theirs.
I was also quite shocked when, at this late stage, one team member who was behind with their work, was also asked to redraw the entire main bar as a point of reference for the others whose segments were based in this area, and was relieved that, with my separate foyer background already completed, I was not putting this additional pressure on them.
However, my relief was short-lived, when despite including a transition of mist moving across, and thickening to fill the screen in my storyboard (which I’d already trialled, felt suited my animation, and would allow the next animator to pick up at any point they chose), and that despite weeks of debate and no decision regarding transitions being made, I was then asked to amend mine to my bouncer looking down a staircase to allow the next animator to incorporate this idea into their scene.
However this time, with help, I stood my ground; explaining how I was happy with my transition and the concept behind it, and that due to the sheer size of my character and the lack of wall space, that adding a staircase wouldn’t be possible. However, later, when the storyboard for scene 2 was posted on Discord, it still featured this staircase, and I’d to reiterate that this would not feature in my animatic or animation, before this was accepted.
Transition Test
Finally, when amending my original storyboard to reflect my tutor feedback, I thankfully noticed that, in my rush, I’d forgotten to include a camera shot in all of the frames; which I quickly rectified in the final version, above.
