IXD301 Week 9- Elements Projects Development-User Testing

Whilst developing my project I had yet another obstacle to face. I decided to do some user testing on children aged 10 to see what they are most interested in and how they best learn.

See google survey here

Between this survey and additional information I got from the children and their parents, I realised I need to go back to basics with my app yet again. In order to keep them engaged and motivated, I need to create a competitive game they can play with friends. This game would be most successful if it was based on a classic game they most likely grew up playing and therefore they already easily know how to play, as well as their teachers or parents being able to understand and be able to play the game with the child.

The classic game I felt would be most successful in engaging the children was Guess Who. I decided I would pick 24 of the most popular elements and illustrate them and condense the most important facts about them that is a must-know for children. I will then use these as guess who cards where one player will pick a card and the other player will have to use the periodic table clues given to guess the chosen element.

I think this would be a successful way of learning as the cards are bright and colourful which is visually stimulating for the children as well as having a competitive aspect to the game that will keep the user engaged and. motivated to learn without it feeling like school work.
