Portfolio sites
We started today’s class with a SWOT analysis. This involves listing your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats with this project. For mine, I created these spider diagrams:
I found this task very useful as it made me think about what I was and wasn’t good at and what I needed to improve on. I will use this technique in future projects.
We then worked as a class to create a diagram showing the primary, secondary, and tertiary purposes of this project. This gave me an idea of what was most important and what I should focus on to ensure I achieve my goal.
Mission statement:
We were then asked to write a short mission statement for what we are trying to aim for with this project. This is mine:
“Showcase my work in a professional way to promote myself and show the world what I am capable of.”
Tips for this project
- Content planning: This includes, projects I want to include, order/layout, type, contact details etc.
- First Impressions: I need to choose whether I want my site to be image or text led. This is the first thing people will see when they enter the site, so it needs to be effective.
- 1 page or multi-page?
- Make it unique: Make sure your personality and tone of voice comes across.
- Explore multiple options: You don’t have to stick with your original idea and force it to work, instead try different approaches and work from there.
- Language: Language shapes text so use real text and avoid “lorem ipsum”
- Be ambitious: If I have a great idea but I don’t know how to achieve it, I can learn.
- Research for inspiration
- Wireframing and digital prototyping
I will refer to this list to keep me on track when creating my portfolio site.
I found this class very useful and it has made me more confident in what I am doing going forward in this project.
