This talk was very eye-opening and inspiring. It made me think about how far we’ve come from the first computer and how fast technology is continuing to develop. In the talk, he stated that it took 40 years for the radio to reach 50 million users, whereas, it took YouTube just 6 months to reach the same number! Although they are two very different mediums, it still goes to show how quickly a new platform can grow now that most of us use some form of technology. We live in a society surrounded by screens that are changing the way we live “We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us”. As designers, we need to constantly be learning and adapting to this new environment. Therefore, it is important to never think that you know everything, because that is when you stop learning and growing. If we don’t continue to evolve, we risk falling behind and unable to create new and interesting things.
This talk taught me how important it is to spend time on things we care and are passionate about. We must work on things we want to see grow “Design is the choices we make for the world we want to live in”. If we live this way and create meaningful things, we are able to make a change in the world, even if its small.
