IXD301 – Mind-mapping Plot Ideas

I decided to help with my idea generation for this project I needed to do some mind-mapping. Since I have already decided on an idea – an e-book that teaches kids about the periodic table. Now I need to think of an plot idea, I have a few in mind but I needed to make sure I thought of all I could, so min-mapping will help me visualise my ideas and where they could go.

I completed this mind map on Miro. I like using miro for this because it gives me lots of space and freedom to come up with endless ideas. I also like the clean layout and the use of bright colours, it is easy for me to read and select the beset idea. The image below are the plot ideas that I have came up with.

Which ideas caught my eye?

  1. Superhero plot – This caught my eye again, I think this is a sign that I should go for this idea, as I think there is lots of possibilities for learning and for excitement due to the villain arc.
  2. Treasure hunt/quest plot – This idea was appealing too because I liked the aspect of perhaps finding the elements on some kind of hunt around an island perhaps. There is also scope for creating a fun friend group to complete this quest, that children can relate to etc.

What was helpful about this idea generation method?

  • It allowed me to branch off within each plot to see where it could go
  • It gave me ideas that I would not of thought of if I just used the brainstorming method
  • It let me select my favourites easily and then add on to them
  • It let me come up with ideas within ideas
