The guy who built a living periodic table

My new project is a digital product based on the periodic table. I wanted to do some non traditional research for this project to get my creative ideas flowing and to get some inspiration. As a lot of young adults these days I spend a lot of my time scrolling through Tik Tok and I thought that I would type in ‘Periodic table’ into the explore page to see what videos would come up. That is when I came across -the guy who built a living periodic table…

I watched his Tik Toks and he most definitely has built a real life period table in his house that is attached to his wall! It is extremely cool. This guy actually has real life elements in his house, he has helium and pieces of uranium and this list goes on. There are of course some elements he will never be able to obtain as some are impossible to see, to get or are too dangerous so he has substitutes, but this is still such a cool project!

What did I learn?

I thought this guys project was super cool and I wanted to include this in my research for my new elements project. It is very beneficial to get research from uncommon places and I want to be more diverse with my research and discovery. For this project it is important to me that I look for inspiration from places I don’t usually and this is something that as a designer I want to do more of- go outside of my comfort zone. This in turn will result in new ideas and affect my work in a positive way. This has encouraged my ideas and I am excited to get started on this project!
