BRIEFLY EXPLAINING MY DESIGN DECISIONS:

I wanted my brand to have a bubbly, exciting, and playful tone however also be minimalist and communicate a tone of professionalism at the same time.  As a result of this I used playful shapes such as abstract stars and flowers throughout my brand in the form of the T in my word mark as well as the icon set, however I also used a small amount of colours in my brand – monochromatic colours blacks and whites create a sense of minimalism and professionalism, however I also added spots of colour – using the secondary colour of pink and also tertiary colour of a bright lime green.  Adding these bright pops of colour created this playful, bubbly tone I aimed for.

I took Daniels advice in using a large amount of simple geometry in my monogram – I feel that the simplicity created through this communicates minimalism and professionalism; I used a consistent amount of geometry throughout my brand as a result of this – my wordmark is created through using segments of my monogram as well as my icon set. In doing this I created playful shapes while maintaining professionalism and consistency.  This is because the shapes all have variety but yet are also similar to each other enough to maintain the same tine of voice and visual form throughout.

WHAT I’VE LEARNED FROM CREATING MY OWN BRAND:

  • how highlighting and creating a tone of voice is essential in creating a successful brand
  • how to use this tone of voice as the rest of the branding elements are created in order to maintain consistency throughout the brand
  • how typography communicated certain emotions and tones
  • how colours make the viewer/ consumer feel different ways about a brand
  • how the usage of geometry in logos is essential to creating a minimalist, visually pleasing brand
