For homework we had to take a thumbnail we had already made and add colour using one of the colour wheel colour types, I chose Analogous where you use colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel.

I used pink, purple, and blue. I really like the mystical feel it has. I also like how the light pink into the purple then the blue worked so well as a colour gradient for the light source.

For the second part of the homework, I had to take an outline that was provided by the teacher and using colour theory convey an emotion.

This was the outline.

The mood I wanted to convey is… melancholic/ Dreary, but that things will get better/ there is hope. I thought that the amount of rocks and water in the line art would be good for this since they are already going to have a blueish tone, and melancholic/ Dreary is very blue.

I am happy with how it turned out, I used a lot of blue to try capture the melancholic feel and used the light beam, and bright sand to represent hope. it was really fun to think about colour in this way, as I usually just throw down any colours that I think would look okay together, so thinking of colour in terms of intent is surprisingly fun and makes colour choice easier.
