This was the homework.

4 Thumbnails (Homework part 1):

The first part of the homework was to make 4 thumbnails based on the new world we where apart of (see new world idea). This was fun however, it was rather stressful as I found it hard to think of what to draw as I didn’t have anything to go off of as alien fauna doesn’t exist/ no pictures of it exist so I had to go off of human fauna and try to tweak it to make it feel alien. We also didn’t discus architectural themes that the aliens would be based off so I wasn’t sure what to draw for the stage so I just made a basic stage, I know that our aliens are vaguely humanoid so the chairs could just be normal chairs.

Favorite thumbnail:

I really like the sense of depth I achieved in this thumbnail so I want to expand on this one.

Full detailed sketch (Homework part 2):

I wasn’t fully sure what I was meant to do for this part, but gathered you needed to spend more time on it so I reworked the original thumbnail, and added detail. The original thumbnail gave off the feeling of being watched so I wanted to add eyes into the swirls in the tree bark, and ended up adding eyes to the dots of the mushrooms. I feel like there is more that can be done but, I don’t know what it is. I am happy with the outcome though.

Continue Design (Homework part 3):

Alien original design-

In my group, we decided to each work on one alien so that when the animation is made there wont be any harsh changes in the design of the alien when the style swaps between the members. For my Alien design I wanted to do a buff man alien, but in clothing that a stereotypical hot guy would wear if he was a lumberjack, Himbo chic if you will. I also gave them an eye on the end of their tail so as to prevent them being snuck up on by predators when they are facing a tree to cut it down. Their tools for cutting down trees are a plasma blade and a serrated hook. The slightly elongated handle on the blade would account for increased swinging speed, and the serrated edges of the hook would allowed better grip on the tree so as to secure it better.

Ideas for location-

I liked the idea of giant trees and mushrooms from one of the thumbnails I did, so I wanted to see how my character would scale, as I imagine them being one of the taller aliens. I also liked the glowing orbs on the trees so I drew them in.

These images I feel, help portray the feeling I think the alien planet should have. I like the idea of bioluminescence, really tall trees, giant rock structures, and other fauna, huge mushrooms, and the such. I want things in the world to be familiar but strange, uncanny, creepy, in summary alien. Although I didn’t do any colours in my drawings I imagine the world being very colorful almost mystical. I am really happy with how my sketches turned out, I really like the things I came up with.
